VNC/SSH/Tether into your iPhone via USB cable

Do you always use your iphone at work to check your Twitter or Facebook accounts beacause all those websites are blocked? Don’t you wish you can view your iphone screen on your PC but you don’t have wifi on your work PC to access it… Well here’s the solution:

1- Install OpenSSH and Veency on your iphone via Cydia

2- Download a VNC client

I recommend RealVNC  http://bit.ly/12Xkh

3- Download itunnel which basically allows you to “tunnel” to your iphone via USB

IMP. NOTE: For those using itunes 9, you should download this file too:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CW9UBL8J

4- Unzip both zip files (lets say we place them in c:\itunnel).  Keep the itunnel.exe from the second zip file(the one for itunes 9)

5- Copy the iTunesMobileDevice.dll and replace  the one found in

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin

6- Run itunnel.exe with the command arguments

iTunnel.exe 5900 5900

this can be done by CMD prompt. navigate to where your iTunnel.exe is stored and run it from CMD prmt by typing iTunnel.exe 5900 5900

7- Open the VNC client and connect to the following ip address:

127.0.0.1:5900

8- Your iphone should prompt you for a incoming VNC connection. Accept and you will now have VNC – Veency running / tunneling from your PC to your phone with no WiFi connection required.

Enjoy!

——-Update——

After some browsing around, I’ve found a great tool called iUSB that encompasses several handy tools (SSH, Tethering, and VNC) that can be used via the iphone USB cable. Download iUSB from:

http://nurkjon.com/

P.S.: If the tunnel does not work, you’ll have to replace the the itunnel.exe file (C:\Program Files\iUSB Tunnel\iTunnel) with the one i posted earlier (for compatibility with itunes 9)

Change “Silde to Unlock” Text on iPhone Lock Screen

•November 10, 2009 • 8 Comments

Hey Everyone,

I thought I’d share this iPhone hint since it’s kind of cool. You can change the “Slide to unlock” text on the lockscreen of your iphone by doing the following:

Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj (either by SSHing into your iphone or by using iFile natively on your iphone). I prefer using iFile since its much more easier and you can directly edit files from there.

Open up SpringBoard.strings file (its sort of a text file with all the different kind of text included in the iPhone)

Scroll down a bit till u get to  ”AWAY_LOCK_LABEL” = “Slide to Unlock”

Just change the text in the second set of quotations to whatever you want!!!

Here’s mine:

“AWAY_LOCK_LABEL” = “Sam’s 3GS”
